Thermal imaging
Surface temperature patterns can reveal useful clues around heating pipework and moisture.
What the camera sees
A thermal camera measures surface temperature patterns. It does not see directly through a wall or a concrete floor. A useful temperature difference can sometimes help reveal a pipe route or area needing further investigation.
Check the meaning of the pattern
Insulation, sunlight, airflow and surface materials also affect temperature. A thermal anomaly should be checked against the plumbing layout and other evidence rather than treated as proof of water.
Use alongside other checks
Moisture readings and appropriate system testing can help establish whether a temperature pattern relates to the suspected leak. See FLIR’s explanation of thermal leak investigation.

happening at home.
A damp patch. A moving meter. A boiler that keeps losing pressure. You don’t need to know where the leak is to make an enquiry.
